Episode 55: Die Hard 2

The Cinemavention podcast will be recorded LIVE at 3:30pm EST on December 31 as a part of the Diamond Club New Year’s Eve Streamathon! We’ll be raising money for sick kids and making sure no one has to spend New Year’s Eve alone for 27 hours ringing in the New Year in every time zone!

What do you call that s**t? Self defense. It was 2 years ago today that the Cinemavention podcast began by discussing the movie Die Hard with Anthony Lemos as the guest. Today we return to the franchise that started it all by discussing the movie Die Hard 2 and how the bureaucracy of the cops getting in the way of John McClane is very frustrating and annoying but also very necessary to the story, we explain why. Plus, there is a reason that the church is the command center for the bad guys that you may have missed and we have to ask the question, is Die Hard 2 a Christmas movie?

Episode 54: The Santa Clause

You look pretty good for your age. Thanks, but I’m seeing someone in wrapping. Our holiday movie watching season rolls on and the creator of the modern version of Showbot.tv, Preston Monroe is here to talk about the movie The Santa Clause. We go over the intricacies of this movie’s portrayal of Santa Claus and how this movie walks the line very well between portraying Santa Claus as real and Charlie having doubt about Santa’s existence. Plus, Preston’s office Christmas parties aren’t as crazy as a butt on a copy machine but he’s had some with very drunk coworkers and Santa falls off the roof of a house so easily and doesn’t even have a fire proof suit, what are the elf researchers in the Santa Clause universe supposed to be doing exactly?

Plus, Dolan did the math on how long it took Buddy to walk from Santa’s Workshop to New York City and has Baby, It’s Cold Outside been un-canceled?

Episode 52: Home Alone

Keep the change, ya filthy animal. It’s the month of December which means it’s time to cover holiday movies here on Cinemavention and we begin with the film Home Alone and Samuel Lewis of The Samcast Network is here to talk about it. This movie has arguably stood the test of time and is the most successful Christmas movie in the box office. It would take 21 years for this movie to be dethroned as the highest grossing live-action comedy film, not just Christmas live-action comedy films. Why is this movie so timeless? Plus, Willie believes that Buzz’s apology to Kevin isn’t sincere and has modern technology made it impossible to remake this film?

Episode 51: Napoleon Dynamite

Your mom goes to college. We are joined by both Anthony Lemos and Kent Fellure from the Ritual Misery podcast and the Diamond Club Streamathon to talk about the film Napoleon Dynamite. There are people who say that there is no point to this movie, Willie disagrees with that opinion and says that there is. We answer the question of what the point of Napoleon Dynamite really is once and for all. Plus, we talk about how this movie is so accurate for its time down to the technology, the school atmosphere and even Napoleon’s home, except for Kip and Lafawnduh’s online relationship that somehow isn’t a catfish and what exactly is the point of class president elections in school, is it just a pretty title?

Regular Game Night contributor Brian Kofford is here to help us celebrate the midterm elections here in the US by talking about the movie Idiocracy and how it serves as a cautionary tale for the state of our country’s current politics but it didn’t use to be that way, how exactly did we get this divisive in the US?
